ไวท์ ออยล์ คือ น้ำมันแก้ว, น้ำมันขาว, White Oil, Mineral Oil, Carnation Oil, Paraffin oil, Petrolatum liquid, Hydrotreated Petroleum Oil เป็นน้ำมันที่ได้มาจากการกลั่นปิโตรเลียม ถ้าอยู่ในรูปของน้ำมันเราเรียกว่า Mineral Oil แต่ถ้าอยู่ในรูปของแวกซ์ เราเรียกว่า ปิโตรเลียมเจล
น้ำมันประเภทนี้ได้มาจากกระบวนการกลั่นน้ำมันดิบ โดยใช้ความร้อนแปรสภาพน้ำมันให้กลายเป็นไอ จนลอยขึ้นสู่ชั้นบนของหอกลั่น กลั่นตัวกลายเป็นน้ำมันต่างๆ และที่อุณหภูมิจุดเดือดที่ 150 – 275 องศาเซลเซียส ที่ไอกลั่นตัวเป็นน้ำมันเบนซิล และเกิดสารเหลือค้างเกาะอยู่ชั้นบนขอหอกลั่น เรียกกันว่าพาราฟินที่นำมาทำ ปิโตรเลียมเจล หรือ Petroleum Jelly นั้น มีหน้าตาเป็นน้ำมันใส ไม่มีสี ไม่มีกลิ่น
น้ำมันแก้ว หรือน้ำมันขาว (White Oil Mineral Oil Carnation Oil) ใช้ผสมในหลายอุตสาหกรรม ทำหน้าที่ในการ ให้ความชุ่มชื่นแก่ผิว ป้องกันผิวหนังแห้ง ตกสะเก็ด คัน และลดการระคายเคืองผิวหนัง ซึ่งสาเหตุของผิวแห้งส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากการสูญเสียน้ำผ่านทางผิวหนัง
mineral oil จะทำหน้าที่เป็นชั้นฟิล์มน้ำมันเคลือบบริเวณผิวหนังชั้นบนป้องกันไม่ให้เกิดการสูญเสียน้ำผ่านทางผิวหนังและเก็บรักษาความชุ่มชื้นไว้กับผิวหนัง
American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) ได้จัด mineral oil เป็นสารที่ ไม่น่าจะมีความเป็นไปได้ที่ mineral oil จะทำให้เกิดสิวต่อผิวหนังมนุษย์ได้
